Michael “Mike” Kazaitis, age 68, of Palos Park, IL, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, surrounded by family.
He was the devoted husband of Debra Kazaitis (née Lindemulder), with whom he shared a life grounded in love and partnership. They were married 42 beautiful years supporting each other in their life goals, raising a family, spending time in their Florida home and traveling the world together with friends and family.
He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Jennifer (Mark Helms), and Allison (Adam Schowengerdt). Dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. He found great joy in his role as grandfather to Lawson and Ivelyn “Ivy” Helms, who were a constant source of pride and happiness.
He is survived by his brother, George (Diane) Kazaitis, as well as his sister-in-law, Roxanne Kazaitis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Bernice Kazaitis (née Storz); his brother, Frank Kazaitis; his sister, Helen (Bob) Krickhahn.
He was an engineer by education, but spent most of his career as a plant manager growing successful facilities and teams. He has multiple patents to his name and could always be found on the production floor demonstrating his servant leadership style solving problems.
Mike was known as a handyman, no project was too big for him and his friends to tackle. The homes he lived in have evidence of his handiwork throughout them from decks, renovated bathrooms, new hardwood floors, landscaping, and handmade furniture. The furniture he made his daughters when they were younger are now enjoyed by his grandchildren.
An avid photographer, runner, and cyclist, he felt most at peace outdoors. He could often be found in the forest preserves or volunteering his time with local restoration groups, quietly giving back to the natural spaces he loved so deeply. Mike was also a well known sports photographer in the community taking action shots for local baseball organizations and church teams.
Mike Kazaitis will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of nature, and the steady presence he was to his family and friends.
