If laughter really is the best medicine, then Michael kept us all healthy for years. On October 21, 2025, the world lost one of its brightest lights, biggest hearts, and funniest storytellers and heaven just got a whole lot louder.
Michael lived life full throttle and on his own terms. He could turn a quiet afternoon into a comedy show, a bad day into a belly laugh, and a stranger into a friend before you even finished your drink. He might have enjoyed one too many cold ones along the way, but somehow, that only made him even more entertaining.
Michael is joining in heaven his beloved parents, Mary and James Denham, his brother James “Rollo” Denham, his sister Mary Brown, and his bonus daughter Bridgette McLain.
He was the proud father of two children, Gavin Denham and Kayla Denham, and a cherished bonus dad to Colleen Johnson (Jeff), Daniel McLain (Kelly), John McLain (Katelyn), Tessa McLain, and Sophia Mulrenin. He loved each of them deeply and took great pride in the family they created together. They will forever carry his wild stories, big hugs, and even bigger love in their hearts. They — and everyone who knew him — can testify that he was the guy who would literally give you the shirt off his back… and probably tell a joke while doing it.
To his granddaughter Cora, he was lovingly known as “Poppy D” — a title that perfectly captured his fun-loving spirit and big heart. She was what he considered his greatest achievement. He will also be forever remembered by all of his bonus grandchildren who adored him and will carry his love and laughter with them always.
Judgment wasn’t in his vocabulary. He loved people exactly as they were — no exceptions, no conditions. Down on your luck? He’d hand you his last dollar and probably convince you that things weren’t so bad after all. His generosity was matched only by his ability to make anyone feel seen, welcome, and loved.
While Michael may have left the party a little earlier than we wanted, he made sure it was one hell of a good time while he was here. So when you think of him, don’t be sad — laugh loud, hug tight, help someone who needs it, and maybe raise a glass to the man who made every moment brighter.
A celebration of his unforgettable life will be held on October 27th, 2025 from 4-8 at Palos Gaidas Funeral Home 11028 Southwest Hwy. Palos Hills, IL. 60465. Dress code: come as you are, maybe throw a bandana in there somewhere — bonus points for smiles, stories, and laughter. That’s exactly how he’d want it. So in the words of Mikey D, GO ON WITH YOUR BAD SELF
