Geraldine Stiff, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 19th, 2026, while surrounded by her family and friends. Gerry is survived by her devoted and doting husband, Larry Stiff, her son James (Shelly) Stiff an IT Alliances Executive outside of Denver, her daughter Jennifer (and late partner Leisa) Stiff a Social Worker in St. Louis and the late baby Charles Stiff. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Judy Lesniak, cousin Michael Micka and cousin Patty Micka along with many dear friends. Preceding her in death are her uncle Michael Micka, aunt Lillian Micka, cousin Laura Arnold and cousin Sandy Micka among other loved ones.
Gerry was born on August 12th, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois and was the only child of her proud parents, the late Adele nee Micka and Anthony Cherry. She grew up in the Brighton Park neighborhood where she attended Immaculate Conception Grade School, Maria High School and Chicago Teachers College. While growing up she enjoyed basement parties with her Brighton Park crew, nights at Annie’s Tavern and weekends at the Micka cottage in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Gerry and Larry raised their children in Brighton Park area before moving to Glen Ellyn during the blizzard of 1979. After moving, Gerry taught at Glenbard West High School and spent numerous years working with Pella Windows. She enjoyed gambling and playing the slots exploring every river boat along the Mississippi. She loved spoiling her “grand pets” – Ruby, Ginger, Maddie and Oscar who will miss her endless supply of treats. She would never miss an afternoon watching Jeopardy, often had Elvis playing in the background and enjoyed her evening cocktail hour with a Black Russian.
Yellow was her favorite color representing the sunshine, cheer and joy her spirit radiated. Gerry's light will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to your local no-kill animal shelter
