A devoted patriarch, author, entrepreneur and citizen of the world, Evangelos “Angelo” Daglas was called home on August 2, 2025 at the age of 87 years old.
Hailing from the village of Katomeri on the tiny island of Meganisi, Greece, he grew up in a tight-knit family where he developed a strong work ethic and enduring love of the sea. He enjoyed challenging his friends to see who could climb and jump from the tallest mast among the boats in Atherino Harbor, tending to baby lambs in the family flock, soccer and swimming. He wrote his first published novel Fight, Love, Dream as a teenager, followed by The Companion. Many years later, his short stories ran in the Hellenic Voice (Chicago) newspaper.
His early life was shaped by hardship and resolve, leaving school to help support his family upon his mother’s illness and traveling extensively as a seaman in his teens and early 20’s, experiences that fostered a global perspective and deep appreciation for culture and people.
Following completion of his service in the Greek Coast Guard and a stint in the merchant marines, Angelo chose to build his life in the United States. Working tirelessly to establish himself, he founded the A.G. Daglas Painting Company, Inc., earning a reputation for safety, quality, and fairness. Known for his sharp appearance, dignity, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life, Angelo built lasting relationships across communities, from small-town diners to corporate boardrooms. His kindness and warmth extended beyond business, whether helping neighbors or supporting his employees. He remained proud of the honest, hardworking life he built in his adopted country.
Family formed the centerpiece of Angelo’s life. A devoted husband and father, he found his greatest joy in time spent with his wife of 47 years, Eileen, and their sons, George and Steven. He delighted in simple pleasures—sharing meals of freshly caught fish, cheering for A.E.K. Athens, playing soccer with his children, or enjoying a sweetened cup of coffee. He will be remembered for his integrity, his generosity, and the strength of his presence. His legacy continues through his wife, Eileen; sons George (Bria) and Steven; brother Stavro (Yiannoula); sister Yiota; sister-in-law Stamata; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Evaggelia; brother Spiro; and sisters Aglaia and Eutexia. May His Memory be Eternal! All arrangements entrusted to Orrico Kourelis Funeral Services Inc.
