Donald C Azukas

Donald C. Azukas, 90, of New Lenox, Illinois, and formerly of Worth, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on July 31, 1935, in Chicago to Charles and Blanche Azukas, Don grew up with a strong sense of responsibility, humor, and determination. After graduating from Calumet High School, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he pursued his education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Technology from Bradley University and later a Master’s in Industrial Relations from Loyal University. His career began at Western Electric in Chicago, on to Perkins and Will in Chicago, continued at Rudnick and Wolf Law Firm, and later included running his own business before retiring from World Carrier.

Don’s true legacy, however, was not just in his work but in the way he lived his life. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a quick wit, a kind heart, and a love of learning that never faded. A lifelong reader, he was always curious and eager to explore new ideas. He was also a proud member of the VFW and the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He spent many joyful weekends flying remote-controlled planes, where he enjoyed both the hobby and camaraderie of friends. He also loved traveling with his daughter, creating memories she will always treasure.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his daughter, Karen; his grandchildren, Steven (Andi ) Benegas, Patrick (Lisa Palicki), and Shannon; and his great-grandson, Vincent. He also embraced his role as a “bonus” grandfather to Theresa, Claire, Jimmy, and Mary Meegan, and as a “bonus” great-grandfather to Wayne Meegan. Don is preceded in death by his beloved son, Steven M. Azukas.

Don’s life was full of love, laughter, and dedication to those around him. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor, where family and friends will come together to share stories and remember the joy he brought into their lives.
